After World War II, men and women worked diligently to preserve community pride. Formed by Dr. J. McCormick, the El Portal Woman’s Club raised money to build a police station and city hall for the Village and since, has raised funds for many causes, as well. In 1976, the Woman’s Club celebrated 100 years- a pivotal moment in the history of the club. An iconic component of the club were the Patriots in Petticoats- a group of legendary women that emphasized the U.S. flag and starred in over 80 shows for local citizens. Among the goals of the club at that time, were beautifying the landscaping and greenery surrounding the Village. The club remained active until the early  90’s.

In 2015, the club was revived, establishing a board, and serving the legacy in the way it was originally intended. The group continues to advocate for community improvements, and has been extremely active in creating community events to bring neighbors together and fund raise for local charities. In 2016, the club reached a milestone- they were recognized as a member of the Greater Federation of Women’s Clubs and have also become active in the local GFWC Florida chapter. The GFWC is committed to social progress via hands-on projects, philanthropy, and their ongoing supports in the areas of art, nature, education, health and well-being, civic engagement, peace, and more.
